Job Description:

This is a professional position that provides a range of services to the Office of Public Affairs in the areas of legislative issues, public information, social and traditional media and marketing. Manages and serves as primary lead for the execution of legislative, public affairs and traditional and social media related initiatives in support of HOC’s mission. Requires knowledge in the areas of affordable housing legislative issues as well as strategic communications, both verbal and written. Duties include overseeing the development and implementation of social media activities including Facebook, Twitter and the Executive Director’s blog; overseeing the development of written and visual materials including legislative testimony and analysis, speeches, papers and videos relating to HOC’s activities; tracking legislative developments to support Commission priorities, development of external communication materials targeted to the general public and specific constituencies; managing agency branding efforts and ensure quality control of HOC publications and visual communication efforts; coordinate marketing activities for HOC programs and properties in cooperation with HOC staff; produce news releases; respond to routine media requests and produce feature articles and place them appropriately.

Preferred Skills:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in the policy and communications fields.
  • Knowledge of affordable housing industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of Housing Program regulations, legislative and industry issues, community concerns, county laws.
  • Ability to speak in public.
  • Ability to write news releases, articles and speeches.
  • Knowledge of Word and Desktop Publishing.
  • Knowledge of publication process.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with people of varied backgrounds.
