Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County and T-Mobile Partner to Enhance Residents’ Access to Technology

KENSINGTON, MD— HOC is proud to announce a new partnership with T-Mobile to launch HOC Connects. HOC Connects supplies low and moderate-income households a 7” tablet, Bluetooth keyboard and unlimited 2 GB LTE data for a low monthly technology fee of $10.00. There are no taxes or additional charges. This partnership brings a $125,000 investment by T-Mobile to support HOC customers.

“In the digital age, access equals opportunity,” Executive Director Stacy L. Spann. “HOC’s partnership ensures our customers and their children have similar access to education and resources as other households in Montgomery County.” 

HOC Connects expands availability of technology and internet service that often creates barriers for low and moderate income households.  By increasing access to the internet, HOC Connects allows customers to take full advantage of career and education opportunities. County students can make use of homework assistance and educational tools while parents will be able to support their children’s studies. Job seekers will be able to complete online job applications and enroll in online training programs. Seniors will enjoy greater connectedness and remain engaged in the community.

On February 27, 2017, HOC will host a kick-off event to celebrate the launch of HOC Connects. The event will celebrate the partnership and deliver devices to pre-registered participants. Customers will also share the impact closing the digital divide has on their lives.
