Housing Opportunities Community Partners  First Fundraising Effort Receives Overwhelming Support

KENSINGTON, MD – On September 26, Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County’s (HOC) non-profit affiliate Housing Opportunities Community Partners hosted its first ever fundraising event—the Inspire Gala 2016. Hundreds of community members, stakeholders and elected officials joined Community Partners to celebrate the organization’s impact on families across the County. More than 20 corporate sponsors and dozens of private supporters helped Community Partners raise approximately $180,000.

“The Gala was a celebration of how Community Partners connects people to the resources and supports that allow them to live their dreams and realize their potential. With a little support and access, anyone can unlock their potential,” said Executive Director Stacy Spann.  “HOCP taps into that. The community’s overwhelming support confirms that the County as a whole embodies that ideal.”

At the Gala, participants heard firsthand how critical resources help children and families to move purposefully towards their vision of success. The organization was honored to have Representatives from Senator Barbara Mikulski’s office and Congressman Chris Van Hollen’s office. President and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition Diane Yentel, Maryland Delegate Aruna Miller, Councilmember Sidney Katz, and a representative from Councilmember Roger Berliner’s office also joined the festivities.  Both PNC Bank and CBP Constructors were honored for their continuous championing of HOC’s enrichment programming, both donating $25,000 and $20,000 respectively.

Community Partners’ fundraising enables the organization to expand its reach to more households in need of enrichment programming and housing stability. Because HOC uses its own resources and infrastructure, money raised by Community Partners goes directly to providing services for families and children. With the monies raised from the Inspire 2016 gala, HOCP can expand its support of workforce development initiatives for 140 adults; or provide a 1,300 hours of STEM afterschool enrichment to 120 students; or assist 360 homeless families transition to stable housing. The community’s financial commitment to HOC and Community Partners will have a deep and meaningful impact on hundreds of vulnerable families.
