Job Description:

Consistent with the mission, vision and values of the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC), develop and execute communication projects and initiatives for internal and external audiences, including staff, customers, stakeholders, partners, and the general public. As a member of the Legislative and Public Affairs team (LPA), manage the creation of communications materials through information gathering; developing key messages; writing and editing communications; and consulting with creative team members on the execution of visual designs; and collaborating with divisions and project stakeholders. Plays a lead role in social media content development and management. Will write and edit content for a variety of audiences and channels, including email, video, digital (website and social media), signage, print articles, collateral materials for HOC programs, and internal and external communications. Edit and revise content produced by team members and internal stakeholders, as needed. Will Develop engaging presentations, talking points, scripts, and speeches for HOC leadership to connect with intended audiences. will develop, manage, and execute communication projects from concept through to delivery. Identify internal customer (division) needs and goals for collateral material and communications requests. Proactively ask questions about intended goals of messaging and target audiences to develop meaningful solutions. Assist in the implementation of a comprehensive media relations and communications program that enhances the image and position of HOC. Collaborate with LPA team, HOC divisions, and stakeholders to elevate HOC’s work in a coordinated fashion with our larger communications and media strategies. Will work to build the media profile of HOC leadership as experts and innovators in affordable housing provision and development. Receive and respond to inquiries from media, customers, elected official offices inquiring about constituent issues, and other stakeholders related to HOC programs and communities.

Preferred Skills:

  • Requires a BS degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field.
  • Requires a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the communications field.
  • Must have the ability to research, analyze and evaluate information quickly and efficiently.
  • Must have knowledge of advertising or news media organizations.
  • Must have the ability to write news releases, articles and speeches.
  • Must have experience creating and implementing social media campaigns using Facebook, Twitter, Hoot suite, and other related social media tools and platforms.
  • Must have the ability to analyze and evaluate information.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a diverse population.
  • Must have capability to coordinate complex projects on time and error-free.
  • Must have experience with Adobe Acrobat and MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience working with government entities and/or non-profit organizations preferred.
