Job Description:

Interview, assess and determine eligibility for HOC residents applying for emergency financial assistance in order to prevent evictions and utility disconnections or to provide security deposits and/or moving/storage services for applicants facing emergency relocations. Will make recommendations to the Dept. of Health and Human Services for payments using State and County funds, ensuring appropriate documentation and evidence of need. Will maintain good working relationships with various utility companies in an effort to avoid disconnection and with landlords to avoid eviction. Will prepare and submit timely and accurate monthly narrative and statistical reports. Attend team meetings to stay abreast of new and changing policies and procedures. Will maintain relationships with non-profit agencies, faith-based organizations, and other resources within and external to HOC in an effort to assist clients in crisis. Hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. This is a Full-Time 1 Year Term position, job continuation is based on funding.

Preferred Skills:

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field. Masters preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with a low-income, culturally diverse population.
  • Must have knowledge of available County resources.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Must have ability to maintain excellent customer service techniques and attitude is required.
  • Must have good interviewing and computer skills. 
  • Must be willing and have ability to learn new computer software.
