Kensington, MD, March 27, 2024 – The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) is honored to announce that Residences on the Lane, its mixed-use, mixed-income affordable senior apartment complex in downtown Rockville, Md., was voted “Best Affordable Apartment Community” by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

“HOC is thrilled for this tremendous recognition of the excellence of Residences on the Lane,” said Chelsea J. Andrews, HOC president. “We set out to create the best new standard for senior living and this NAHB Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Award is confirmation of that effort. This is an honor that everyone on the outstanding project team proudly shares.”

That team includes Torti Gallas & Partners (architect), Duball Rockville (developer), Paradigm Construction (general contractor), Hartman Design Group (interior designer) and several financiers, including M&T Bank, HOC, and Wells Fargo; federal, state and local partners at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and its Federal Housing Administration, Maryland Community Development Administration, and Montgomery County Housing Initiative Fund.

The NAHB national annual awards honor the best in creative development concepts, innovative financing strategies, design, management and marketing in the apartment and condo market and are judged by an industry-expert, 12-person panel.

Located in highly sought after Rockville Town Center, Residences on the Lane (formerly Upton II) includes 150 age-restricted residential apartment homes that serve a range of incomes. The complex, which includes a fitness center and yoga room, 24-hour package service, a maker/craft room, conference space, lounge area with cyber cafe, and Club Room, opened in 2021.
